Join me, a professional illustrator, to learn how to draw on an iPad and design your own Christmas pattern which you can print as wrapping paper to make your gifts extra special!
Draw With Patterns is a series of beginner-friendly creative workshops where you’ll learn how to draw on an iPad and turn your ideas into beautiful repeating patterns using the drawing app Procreate.
You don’t need to be an artist or have any previous digital drawing experience; the workshop is designed to help you have a go, build confidence and enjoy the process.
How the Workshop Works:
The session is taught in person, with a live demonstration projected onto the wall so you can follow along step by step, in real time.There’ll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, get individual feedback and work at your own pace.Refreshments (tea and biscuits) are included in your booking.
What to bring:
Ideally, you’ll bring an iPad with Procreate installed and an Apple Pencil. If you don't have the app, you can get it in the App Store.
Don’t have the equipment yet? There are 3 iPads with Apple Pencils available to borrow during each session, so you can try digital drawing and explore pattern-making before deciding whether you want to invest in your own equipment. Please note you need to request this in your booking.
What you'll do:
Step 1: Learn to Sketch
Using a Christmas theme learn to sketch festive elements like some baubles and mince pies using basic shapes and clever tricks to help you. You'll learn to understand how to break down ideas to translate them into drawings that will fill in your pattern.
Step 2: Let's Add Some Colour
Once we have the outlines for our elements, it's time to move on to colouring. Procreate is great for this because it allows us to capture the essence of traditional drawing and painting while benefiting from the flexibility of a digital workflow. You'll learn to use digital brushes for colouring and blending, while also learning to use layers and masks to help you keep manage your progress and keep everything editable.
Step 3: Let's Build the Pattern
With our elements coloured and full of details, we move on to building the pattern. At this stage, you'll learn to create a fun and balanced composition using a diamond repeat template. Once the template is complete I'll teach you how to make your elements repeat to create a seamless pattern block!
Step 4: Export and Use Your Pattern
Whooop, your pattern is ready to export! You’ll learn how to prepare it as a print ready file and explore different ways and places to get it printed as wrapping paper and make your Christmas gifts extra special!
